A Festive Fall

Under the direction of Dr. Frederick Lowe, performs its concert “A Festive Fall” on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine.
Prepare for an exciting wind band concert featuring iconic works. The program begins with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, originally composed in 1954 for orchestra, here adapted for wind band to showcase its brisk, celebratory energy. William Schuman’s New England Triptych is a tribute to early American composer William Billings, drawing on the rich heritage of American colonial hymns and fusing them with Schuman’s bold, contemporary style. Roger Nixon’s Fiesta del Pacifico brings the vibrancy of California’s annual festival held in San Diego each summer to celebrate the old Spanish days of the state. Claude Debussy’s Fêtes (Festivals) from Three Nocturnes, is arranged for wind band to capture the vibrating, dancing rhythms of a night of celebration. This diverse program promises to transport listeners through time, cultures, and moods, offering a rich tapestry of sound.
